Initially, there were no continents, not even countries, just Pangea and sea. The whole concept of countries does not make sense to me. We are living an era in which few world leaders could destroy humanity with the press of a button.
Just depending on what side of the border you were born you will have a good life or a miserable one. Just try to follow the history of the Middle East over the centuries, and you will see how complex it is. Not even mention the history of Africa and South America. The european countries colonized the rest of the world and after World War 2 the history of the world has evolved to create even more problems everywhere.
John Lennon already mentioned it in his Imagine song.
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
